Deadline first reported the news of Mulligan’s casting in “Spaceman,” which will hail from the Primetime Emmy-winning Swedish director of “Chernobyl,” Johan Renck. “Spaceman,” first announced last year, was originally titled “The Spaceman of Bohemia.” It’s based on Jaroslav Kalfař’s 2017 novel. Mulligan will play the wife of Adam Sandler’s astronaut, who is sent to the far reaches of the galaxy in search of a mysterious ancient dust. Soon, his earthly life begins to fall apart, and he must turn to the only voice who may be able to save him — an ancient creature hiding out on his ship....

Loosely inspired by Georges Bizet’s 1875 opera of the same name — so loosely, in fact, that Millepied thinks of his film as less of a re-telling or adaptation than he does a version of Bizet’s tragedy from a parallel universe — this “Carmen” moves the action from the southern tip of Spain to the northern cusp of Mexico, pares the source material’s busy story down to the brink of abstraction, and transmutes its soaring arias into defiant ballets of freedom....

“21 Bridges” Boseman’s typically even-keeled onscreen presence initially makes for a bit of dissonance in Brian Kirk’s sturdy cop drama — he’s presented early on as an unhinged NYPD officer bent on revenge, not the most natural fit for the star.
